I just wrote a manuscript!

Due to a complete and total fear of failure I have avoided writing the story I’m trying to illustrate right now.

I was given a 1400 word story back in 2007 and have been wrestling with it ever since. I decided that it needed to be told from a different direction if it was to be a successful picture book.

I’ve been drawing the story in hopes of adding just the right amount of words when I have the images all set.

These are three random sketches that I’ve done in the past few days. I have the characters (Olive and her corgi, TidBit) and now *trumpets please!*  I have finally written the story! AND it’s currently only 300 words!

I’m sure it will change dozens of times before it gets out into the real world but writing it down is a big leap for this illustrator.

Diving back into Maine!

We’re back from a once-in-a-lifetime Mother-Daughter trip to Crete, Santorini, Athens and London.   It was blissful, exhausting, inspiring and color-filled.

I’m back home and ready to throw myself into the book project I’ve been working on longer than anything in my life. I’ve been sketching this book off and on since 2007. My best work seems to always be connected with it. I am finally at a point where I can often draw and paint what it is I see in my mind when I have an idea for an illustration. I’ve always fallen short before. My sketches are there and the next challenge is to get the final art to the same delicious place.

This is a sketch of the main character who I’m naming Olive and her corgi puppy, Tidbit.
